Success and satisfaction with any part of life can be increased by reading and studying how to improve. We just have to set aside the time and make the decision to work on ourselves. Below are 5 books that greatly helped me improve my self-esteem and courage.
- The Secret
The Secret helps us unlock a belief within ourselves that we didn’t know was possible. It brings about centuries of research on the most successful, prominent individuals from society and how they got there. It helps us understand the Law of Attraction. This book changed my life. At the very least, even if you don’t buy into the Law of Attraction fully, you’ll live a happier life by learning to focus on the positive instead of the negative. If I could go back in time and read one book when I was much younger, it would have been The Secret.

2. Fierce Conversations
This book was recommended to me early in my management career. I’m so glad I took the time to read it. If you are anything like I was, holding back in conversations, tip toeing around what you really want to say, this book will help you. It teaches us the art of being pleasantly upfront and honest in a way people appreciate. This is one of the few books I have on my list to re-read, because being able to navigate tricky conversations both in personal and professional life is so crucial.

3. Wild
Wild opens our minds to the vast possibilities of what can happen when we face our fears, and choose to let go of our past. It features the incredible true story of Cheryl Strayed, who needed to make some major changes and did not let fear hold her back. This story will enlighten you, make you feel strong, edgy and bold. It nearly convinced me to go backpacking alone. Seriously.

4. #GIRLBOSS
The Washington Post referred to this book as, “Lean In for misfits”. If you love a rags to riches story to remind us that not everyone just “gets lucky”, this book is IT. The story of Sophia Amoruso is sad, humorous, daring, happy, and inspiring. For those who came from a past they are less than proud of, (come on, we all had some of that didn’t we?!) this book could be the call to action we desperately need. It is an absolutely fabulous memoir.

5. YOU are a BADASS
This book will awaken you out of your self-doubt coma. It provides a great backstory of how Jen Sincero went from pity-partying it up to deciding to change her life. It gives you guides and writing exercise to help you do the same. It makes you feel like you can be fearless and conquer anything, if you let it. Use this book to guide you and you’ll succeed in both your personal life and career in a way you didn’t know was possible.
